Abstract:
Objectives: To investigate the role of serum uric acid, bilirubin levels in coronary artery disease (CAD).
Methods: 120 cases of coronary artery disease (CAD) patients having angiographic evidence of atherosclerosis were compared to 120 healthy controls for uric acid, total bilirubin and direct bilirubin in serum.
Results: Serum uric acid levels in patients with coronary artery disease was significantly higher in both men and women of CAD group (P <0.001). The Total bilirubin and Direct bilirubin levels of CAD group were significantly lower than the control group (P <0.001, p<0.001).
Conclusion: High serum uric acid level, low total bilirubin levels, low direct bilirubin levels in coronary artery disease are the risk factors for coronary artery disease.
