GA is estimated by assessment of fetal biometry. The parameters usually taken into account while assessing fetal biometry are: fetal femur length (FL), the biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC) and the abdominal circumference (AC) after 24 weeks of gestation. But, there is no single parameter to assess the GA. Fetal kidney length is one such non-traditional parameter for estimating GA under study. It is easy to identify and measure. It is the more accurate method of GA estimation than BPD, FL, HC and AC in 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Aim and Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the significance of normal fetal kidney length (FKL) and its correlation with GA. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out on 30 pregnant women with single-ton pregnancies and without any complications for a period of 4 months at Vinayaka Mission’s Hi- Tech Hospital, Salem. Women with singleton pregnancies underwent standard ultrasound fetal biometry and kidney length measurements at late 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. These measurements were used to date the pregnancies. Results and Observations: FKL along with other standard fetal biometry measurements is correlated with the GA using linear regression equation. FKL is the more accurate method of GA estimation during late 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Conclusion: FKL is easy to identify and measure.
